100 Mile Fruits and Veggies
Bailey's Local Foods offers a growing selection of preserves that showcase how tasty local food can be all year. There are the tried and true favourites of salsa, relish and applesauce. But we are proud to offer pearsauce or the pear-applesauce for a new taste. See below for descriptions.
Applesauce
The Naamon and Selema Martin family manages an orchard and a small cider press and canning facility on their farm. They produce many litres of cider a year and many jars of applebutter. Now they are expanding to offer a wider variety of preserves. The applesauce is not only made by the Martin family, they also raised the apples in their orchard where they limit the sprays they use as much as they can. We could call it "low-spray" applesauce but just Bailey's Local Foods Applesauce will do. No sugar or salt or preservatives.
Pearsauce
Naamon and Selema also make the pearsauce. Pearsauce can be enjoyed like applesauce in a bowl with a sprinkle of cinnamon. It is also good as fruit on top of a bowl of cereal or yogurt. No sugar or salt or preservatives. The pears are sourced from area farmers who use much less spray (and sometimes none) than apple orchards. Pear trees are much less vulnerable to diseases than apple trees.
Salsa
You can stock your pantry with a choice of two kinds of salsas from the Martin family. Using local ingredients as much as possible including local apple cider vinegar, these salsas are packed with good tastes from the garden. Each has different ingredients and different levels of heat. No preservatives.
Peach Slices
Peach slices from a jar are like a taste of sunshine on a cloudy day. These Red Haven peaches are particularly sunny because they are sustainably farmed! Eva and Rene tend their orchards using sprays that are mostly consistent with organic practices. The peaches were peeled and put into jars with a light syrup by the Orchard Hill Produce, which is the Martin family.
Pear Slices
Pear slices in a bowl - a simple yet satisfying snack or dessert. These pears are preserved by the Martin family of Orchard Hill Produce. The pears are not organic but few, if any, chemicals were applied to them in the orchard.
